Free Gift

How would you like to receive a free gift? God has prepared a free gift for you if you will simply accept it. I’d love to explain it to you if you would simply take the time to continue reading.

The unfortunate truth about men, women, boys, and girls is that we all seek to please ourselves instead of God. We choose to do things our way instead of God’s way. These acts of following our own will instead of God’s are call sin. If we are even vaguely aware of the world around us we realize that in one way or another everyone acts contrary to God’s will and plans. The Bible also tells us:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God… (Romans 3:23)

We should understand that sin comes with a penalty. The Bible tells us:

…the wages of sin is death… (Romans 6:23)

In the most basic sense of the word wages means pay or ration. People earn their wages. We earn death, not only in a physical sense, but especially in a spiritual sense as a result of sin. Spiritual death is our eternal separation from God. But take heart, all it not lost. This same verse in the book of Romans tells us:

…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ… (Romans 6:23)

It might seem curious that the same God that condemns our rebellious acts wants to offer us the gift of eternal life. We need to understand that our God is a gracious, merciful, and loving God.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

The fact that God loved us even while we were living in rebellion to His plan and purpose helps us understand that God loves us with an unconditional love. There are no “if’s” and “but’s” to God’s love. God has no expectation that we live according to His plan and purpose before we have a life changing encounter with His Son Jesus Christ. Providing a sacrifice for our sins and way for our salvation is an expression of God’s unconditional love for us.

While some people doubt that salvation is available to them (based on their past, their social status, age, race, and etc.) the Bible makes it clear that salvation is available to ever person alive.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)

If a person will trust Jesus for their salvation they can indeed be saved. Salvation is available from no other source, not philosophy, occult, popular culture, or even sincere well meaning false religions. Once we understand these simple facts all that remains is for us to express our faith to God by acknowledging these facts and asking God to save us.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. {10} For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

While there is no “magic formula” or “required prayer” perhaps the following sample prayer might serve as a guide for helping you express to God what you would like to say to Him right now.

Dear God, thank you for loving me! Thank you for sending Jesus to earth to live a sinless life. Thank you for sending Jesus to suffer, die, and experience separation from You in order to pay the penalty for the sins I have committed. Thank you for raising Him from the dead on the third day giving us a vivid picture of His victory over sin and death. I know that Jesus provides the one and only avenue available for my salvation. I put my faith in Jesus and His sacrifice for me. I ask that you would save me from the penalty of my sins based on the sacrifice that Jesus made for me. I love you Lord and I thank you for saving me! Amen…
